Northern Lakes Economic Alliance (NLEA) submitted industrial sites to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) to be selected for a site evaluation completed by Olsson, a national engineering and design firm. There were 7 sites selected for 2019 in the State of Michigan, three of them being in northern Michigan: the Cheboygan Industrial Park, Port of Cheboygan, and 26 vacant acres in Mancelona Township.
MEDC has contracted with Olsson to complete the site evaluations which will take the following information into consideration: general plans for the sites, zoning, current pollutants, workforce statistics, sewer and water capacity, electric power and capacity, natural gas and capacity, telecommunications, as well as the communities’ desired outcome for the sites. They will analyze the information received on each site to determine which industries would be the most successful fit for these industrial sites.
With offices all over the United States, Olsson engineers solutions to make communities better with the intention to leave communities better than they found them. Olsson has an extensive background in engineering, field services, technology, field services, and planning & design.
Once the evaluations are complete, both the City of Cheboygan and Mancelona Township will know what businesses are best suited for those specific sites and will have robust marketing packages for each site that will appeal to the proper industry or developer.
